Operator,

A recovered archive fragment has been transmitted through the AKC Signal network.

The following entry is part of the Arkfall Field Archive — a record documenting the events that reshaped the world after the arrival of the Arks.

BECOMING AN ARK HUNTER

══════════════════════════════

Most Ark Hunters don’t start out looking for the job.

The world after the Arkfalls didn’t leave many people with simple career paths. Cities had been reshaped, ecosystems rewritten, and entire regions of the planet were now marked by glowing craters and fractured alien machinery.

Growing up in that world meant learning one thing very quickly:

Arkfall zones were dangerous.

But they were also everywhere.

People learned to live near them, trade around them, and sometimes survive because of the technology buried within them. Salvagers, engineers, soldiers, and explorers all found reasons to step into those unstable territories.

For some, it was about profit.

For others, survival.

For a few… curiosity.

Callie had always been curious.

Arkfall zones were puzzles scattered across the landscape — glowing crystal fields, dormant alien devices half-buried in the earth, and energy readings that changed depending on where you stood. Every impact site felt like a question waiting to be answered.

But curiosity alone doesn’t make someone an Ark Hunter.

Training does.

Ark Hunters operate where most technology fails. Their equipment must survive Arkfall radiation, unstable terrain, and creatures shaped by alien energy. Hunters are trained to track anomalies, recover Ark Tech, and eliminate threats before they spread beyond containment zones.

It’s a dangerous job.

Which is exactly why the Earth Republic formed the Ark Hunter Program.

The program recruits individuals capable of surviving Arkfall zones and equips them with specialized gear designed to interface with alien technology. Hunters become explorers, soldiers, scientists, and salvagers all at once.

Callie entered the program because she wanted answers.

Answers about the Arks.

About the energy that reshaped the planet.

About the strange technology scattered across the world.

And about the patterns that most sensors couldn’t explain.

It was during early operations that she first encountered Karl Von Bach.

Von Bach is many things: scientist, strategist, and one of the leading researchers studying Ark Tech and Votan technology. While many people approach Arkfall zones with caution, Von Bach approaches them with relentless curiosity.

Which made him immediately interested in anyone who could survive inside them.

Callie’s early missions demonstrated exactly that.

She showed an unusual ability to navigate Arkfall terrain, recover intact technology, and identify anomalies that instruments initially missed. Those skills quickly caught the attention of Von Bach’s research division.

Before long, her assignments began shifting.

Less routine patrols.

More expeditions.

More research recoveries.

Working under Von Bach meant stepping closer to the center of Arkfall research — where salvaged Ark Tech was studied, classified, and sometimes activated.

It also meant venturing deeper into Arkfall territory than most Hunters ever attempted.

But by then, the path had already been chosen.

The world had changed when the Arks fell.

And someone had to explore what they left behind.

So Callie became an Ark Hunter.

And somewhere along those early expeditions — in a quiet crater filled with fractured Ark Tech and fading Arkfall embers —

She would meet a tiny cosmic familiar who had decided to stay.
